THEATER MUSIC

Composing Theatermusic

When she was very young, GoJa was setting her children books to music. Since then creating music for storys became a growing passion. Her aesthetical decisions for theater music compositions are influenced by her classical background, Chanson, Folk, Jazz,  Electronic music and her studies of different musiccultures like north indian Dhrupad, arabic and westafrican music styles.

MissFire 2011-2014

MissFire is a theaterplay written and directed by Shredy the original music composed by GoJa. This project was evolving from a unique, intercultural collaboration with Shredy Jabarin, a palestinian actor, director and writer from Tel Aviv. Both met several times in Berlin and Israel to visit all relevant places and travel between different worlds. A journey about dealing with manifold identities, formed as social, cultural and political by our limiting constraints; about longing for an universal to overcome unintended distance. The monodrama performed on stage from February until September 2012 in Tel Aviv Arab-Hebrew Theater and on the Festival of Acre in arabic language (Actor: Ibrahim Sakalla). GoJa explored Shredys profound lyrics to the core and composed the music without interfering in the original, pure message. A Song Album was published in 2014.

Sometimes at Night 2012

The Soundtrack of Sometimes at Night was composed and musically directed by Maria GoJa for an interdisciplinary experiential performance piece, written by Andrea Goldman. The mystical music language reminds of folkloric themes and far away places, told by the singing Lady Trees (Maria GoJa, Annika Hillebrand, Birte Fuchs and Carla Figueroa). The music Album was published in 2013.

The piece tells the epic story of three sisters and their painstaking journey towards wholeness. Inspired by myths, legends and folkloric stories of women throughout time, this is an exploration of what it means to rediscover the primal within– the wild woman spirit.

How do we regain the strength of true human values? We’ve been fragmented into pieces through the various roles in our lives.

We’ve strayed from the path of creativity, we’ve lost the roots of expression.
